I hate my job. I've had to take a 15 year step backwards in career thanks to the I.T market in London being in complete turmoil, well, and because my main technical skill VMS is virtually non existent these days. So I'm doing a shitty operations analyst job, doing shitty 12 hour shifts, day and night, weekends, bank holidays..etc... bah.

anyway, this is my desk where I sit like a trained monkey.  You may recognise something on the lower middle screen.

blimey! do you wear a lead lined suit? you must get fried by those screens bro, lol

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

the possibility a dancetecher's joke or pun is on that screen seems utterly frightening.

oh wow, you have New York time up on the wall there. we had London time and a few others where i used to work at Lehman Brothers. never knew why though. i never looked at those clocks before calling Tokyo for instance. either someone answered answered the phone or didn't.

K, its fucking horrible. Not too bad on night shift (which I'm on tonight), but day shift is a real endurance test. 12 hours sitting there getting a sore neck looking up at that fucking big screen.

They recently changed all the screens, because the original ones you actually felt like you were getting a sun tan. Not very pleasant at all.

Sitar, aye we have New York and Bangalore clocks because we have business and support out at both sites. We're always speaking to Bangalore, but very rarely to anyone in the US.

VMS is a very good, but old operating system. HP own it now. Originally it was created and developed by DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) a long long time ago. Its licensing costs are very expensive compared to Windows or Unix OS, however it is very stable and reliable. But because its expensive its only really used at big corporations, mainly the financial industry.

An Ops Analyst sits for long periods of time, drinking coffee, until an electric shock notifies him that something has gone wrong, then he presses a button and goes back to doing nothing until the next electric shock.

So does that mean that on night shift, you can sit in just your underpants with a bag of wiz logged into porn hub, lol

I wish that were the case LOL but unfortunately not.  Its quite soul destroying really. Its very mundane, very tedious, and a trained monkey would be more suited to the job !
