What exactly is jazz voicings? Is it inversions of chords or more complex chords (7th, 9ths, etc)?

If you are playing guitar, one voicing that is commonly used is Tonic, then seventh and third (and then accidentals) For example A7 would be A, G, #C in that order. On the guitar it is (5X56XX - Starting first string - the fat one - fifth fret, second string nothing, third string fifth fret, and fourth sixth fret) Amaj7 would be A, #G, #C (5X66XX). If you have accidental it's easy to add them to this position like A7/#5 would be A, G, #C, F (5X566X). In gerneral jazz voicings are stacked sevenths (and major sevenths, and double flat sevenths) and stacked fourths (perfect, flat, and sharp)
