The problem is that I have heard conflicting information about Reason. Some people say its all you need in terms of sound and others say it sounds a bit "lifeless" and "flat". Are these bitchers just jealous they spent loads of money on hardware?

I have done a bit of research and it would seem that using Reason 2.5 through FL studio 4.5 on a laptop is my best bet
why do you say that exactly? - using s/w has many parameters which effect the resulting music - not least of which is that it might be VERY popular with people who have absolutely NO background or knowledge of making music or using music or studio gear and who actualy also have absolutely no talent
Reason can be used to fantastic effect, and for some genre's i'd actualy choose it from the starting block...... however, imo, it's the very popularity of the programme amongst hobbyists that gives it this reputation or rather 'criticism' (sometimes) of turning out sub-standard music in some way.
rather like looking at the sum content of the worlds created iMovies - most of them will be complete rubbish done by hobbyists.
conversely - put REASON into the hands of someone with talent and knowledge.... a different ballgame.
anyways why do you say it (using Reason 2.5 through FL studio 4.5 on a laptop is my best bet) ??

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!
