SHURE SM7B studio microphone - People often assume that quality vocals only come from large diapgragm studio condenser mic's, but this classic SM7 is actualy a large diaphragm DYNAMIC mic like the famous Sennheiser 421... Starting life without the 'B' suffix as primarily a voiceover studio mic, this baby has gone on to find fame and fortune in use with vocalists such as James Hetfield from Metallica and Micheal Jackson amongst others.The SM7B dynamic microphone has a smooth, flat, wide-range frequency response appropriate for music and speech in all professional audio applications. It features excellent shielding against electromagnetic hum generated by computer monitors, neon lights, and other electrical devices. The SM7B has been updated from earlier models with an improved bracket design that offers greater stability. In addition to it's standard windscreen, it also includes the A7WS windscreen for close-talk applications.

I first heard about this mic when Devin Townsend recorded his Addicted album, and it shows him
tracking his vocals using this mic on many of his online videos. I thought well if its good enough for him
you no!
So i got one about 2 months ago, and its the best thing iv ever done.
It has the same characteristics of a dynamic mic, while keeping the warmth and quality of a condenser.
The singer in my band had trouble recording vocals whilst listening to his mix through the headphones, i
found that the SM7B can be used to record a vocal, whist the vocalist is listening to the mix through
speakers or monitors without picking much of the monitors.
Basically this microphone picks up what you put into it and nothing else, like a super cardioid
microphone. and it does it better than any mic i have worked with.
