BEHRINGER MX3282A

Behringers 32 into 8 sub's into two stereo mixer.. a commonly owned model, lots around s/h.... just to say there is some contention about the reliability of some Behringer power supplies or at least power getting onto wrong busses on the mixer or whatever faults on some models.... I can't say how widespread that is, but there is some talk about it around... but if it works ok it's a nice mixer for the prices you can get 'em for .... your personal user comments are thus appreciated .. you can add 'em at the end of this page...

behringers bigger mixers come with a rackmount 19" power supply, This model has it....

The MX3282A gives you 28 actual channel strips... configured as 24 mono channels with inserts and mic/line inputs... and 4 stereo channels with line-inputs and inserts making 28 strips in total.... the channels have solo & mutes, and there is inserts on all channels, subs and master L/R... all In/Out's are balanced...

24 mono + 4 stereo (8) = 32 total ... hence the MX32/8/2....

There's 8 sub-groups to which any or all 28 channel strips can be assigned... the 8 subs have dedicated mixer out sockets as usual.... There is also 4 Aux returns, each one stereo which have routing options too...

8 auxiliary SENDS per channel

  • two pre-fader sends (1 & 2)
  • two post-fader sends (3 & 4)
  • four pre/post switchable sends (5 – 8)

    The EQ:

3-band EQ with semi-parametric mid-band and sweep area of 100 Hz to 8 kHz.

The stereo channels give you four fixed frequency bands: 80 Hz, 500 Hz, 3 kHz and 12 kHz. With a full 15 dB of boost or attenuation.

    low-cut filter:

A steep-ish (18 dB/octave) filter at 75 Hz, helps to roll off low-frequency noise without taking away from the low-mids of the actual sound as a wider slope would... it's a nice addition...

all in all a fully featured desk... lots of in's .. plenty of outs to feed whetever, and mucho amounts of Aux send power.... Any users passing thru, i'd like to know if the 4 Aux-returns can be routed thru into a sub group/mix, cos sometimes desks don't let you do this... I'm pretty sure you can do that tho...

As i say, they had a ruff reputation ride with power and breakdowns on some models... in my limited experience of them, they look nice, controls feel reasonably robust and smooth, well laid out... sound ok... they are also cheap s/h... lots of inputs for the larger studio and tons of sends for sound-sculpting with outboard.... anyways... a commonly available larger mixer ideal for a bigger project studio.... experiences please....

mx3282a...bought one new around 18 months ago,had no trouble with it whatsoever, it's great to have so many inputs especially if you have drum machines, etc with seperate outs and also multi-output soundcards. At first i thought the psu fan might become distracting but then i got a computer full of tiny whirring fans which easily drown it out.8/10 for a mixer with so much versatility, reliability, ample in/out & aux's and a clean, quiet musical sound.

We had to change the plugs on PSU and mixer and took an option for a sturdier type-everything ok now. It could have some more headroom though and punchier EQ, but more than nice for the price!

I bought a mx3282a mixer used. It had alot of channels as well as aux sends that I would need for monitor mixes. The first time I used it out I was getting power surges in two channels an two auxes dropped out. This concerned me since I really liked the layout of this board.Being experienced in electronics somewhat I completly took the board apart and cleaned and checked for loose wires an cold sodder joints & cleaning the jumpers as well. After I did all that all the problems went away but I found out that if you overdrive the channels they will shut down to protect the inturnal board. My band mates did not trust the board so one bought an Allen Heath 16 channel board to try out. The Allen Heath board was very harsh & very much not a very warm sound as well as very transparent full of high end sound but limited on low end sound unlike the mx3282a board.
