Ok what are they, studio monitors no, floor speakers no they are what they are Multimedia Speakers, I was a little intrepid before buying them as there were no reviews I could find, no where to look (listen to) at them locally and buying sight unseen especially for speakers is enough to put shivers up you spine well it is for me.
Ok what have I found, well unlike the cheaper multimedia speakers they have fairly clean low end I could still hear 45Hz and well past 15khz using Audiotest for MAC. Remember this is an empirical test in real room conditions using real ears! I have the speakers setting in stands about 120mm off the desk and beside and slightly forward of the monitors this puts the tweeters at ear height and makes for good imaging. For a multimedia setup these have a fairly large foot print do be aware of that point.
Hi have listened to them for many hours and haven't them to be fatiguing at all listening to pop rock electro dance unlike my old mm system i haven't felt the need to adjust tone and being a larger speaker variations in the recording level between various tracks is less objectionable then with the smaller speakers typically used.
They have slightly boomy bass but part of that seems to be the coupling into the desk (better stands planed), there is a bass control which fixes this nicely, mids are clean with top end not over emphasised and certainly not harsh sounding and they play damn loud and clean to boot. Remember these are near field monitors and I'm like a meter back from them.
They also work very well using sp/dif and analogue.
Ok am I happy with them yes
Are they perfect, no
Do I think they were value for money yes
A "sub out" would have been fantastic.
They also work well with an ipod
Are their better yes, but seriously if you can afford Adam Artist's you wouldn't be reading these musings now would you. personally bangs per buck there thumbs up! Enjoy.
