Just adding it to the listings cos it's a classic. The Urei LA-3A - The original LA-3A Leveling Amplifier made its debut at the 1969 NY AES show and marked the departure from the tube design of the Teletronix LA-2A Leveling Amplifier. The LA-3A incorporated components and design concepts from the Bill Putnam designed 1176LN Limiting Amplifier. Immediately embraced as a studio workhorse and still widely used today, the LA-3A remains a favorite of engineers and producers worldwide for its unique compression characteristics and sonic signature....To clear up possible confusion - Teletronix Made the LA2A and were based in Pasadena, California. At that time, (1965), Teletronix was a division of Babcock Electronics Corp. - In 1967 Babcock's broadcast division was acquired by Putnam's company which at that time was called 'Studio Electronics Corp' - shortly after that, Putnam changed the company’s name to UREI.
So, this product, the original LA-3A was made by 'UREI' - Nowadays, some of these products are available re-released by the company Universal Audio - You can get re-released versions of classics like the LA-3A, the LA-2A & the 1176LN (Low Noise)
Anyways the original & the re-issue are used by all and sundry in the music biz from huge names to bespoke studio's, they are sposed to be pretty transparent & they are sought-after. The image is of two LA-3A's racked together; a configuration you see alot as they can be stereo-linked and used over output pairs for limiting duties.

This is one awesome product that every rock 'n roll bohemian should have in his/her audio system to run the music through. It's the bomb on loud music, but it's also special on low-level music where noise might be an issue. It expand the content as the volume gets low and drops out. This is highly desirable if you don't want pumpy compression or noise into your production. it's dead quiet, almost expanding, when it goes out. At the other end of the operating range, the optoislators create a high frequency product that is sibilint and can even take over the other content for a few milliseconds and combines that content with the swishing. It's an unusual sound due to the characteristics of the 1N34, I'm just guessing. This is a very unusual box that I highly recommend.
