it's not there
another good bargain sampler for a bit more cash - get it with a full memory for best value.
again, watch the ram on these if you're looking s/h, cos the 2800's like the 3000's used the Akai sample-ram boards.... they are expensive, so make sure the old Akai you're after has enuff ram for your needs, cos it's like 300 squids per 8mb board !!....(they are still available from Akai)..... .Here's the spec's...

Well.... there it is... the S2800... user comments please..... these can be had at bargain prices only drawback is the lack of 8 poly outs,.... but you get 4 which is ok...
Great alternative for the more expensive S3000 series. This one has timestretch from 20 to 2000%...very nice but nothing special these days .Easy to use and reliable Akai sampler with sadly only 4 outputs(1 stereo + 2 mono). I think the S/H prices are around $850 or so...Buy this and a vitual analog and your on your way...
these ARE great machines- you can configure them to act as s3000 with
simple jumper changes(few know of this)
which means you can also expand the ram
to same as s3000- very SOLID sounding
and by customizing output opamps they
achieve the kind of low/high end correct phase that we normally think of
as digital- eats the new machines.
See my site for cost-effective 32 Meg memory boards for the S1000/S1100 and the S2800/S3000/S3200/CD3000. The later expand the S2800/CD3000 to 32 Megs, which is not possible with standard 8 Meg boards.
test pc
I just bought a used s2800. After I load the samples from an external CD-rom then try to play them with My PC with cakewalk I can't hear any sounds, even though the midi button lights up indcating the midi messages are being received.
Coould there be something wrong with the audio out-puts, or do I need to adjust the parameters?
Sincerly JIM***

The Akai and EMU samplers of this era are the workhorses and have a excellent tone added to the samples that you don't get with software and a computer. I love my Akai and wouldn't trade it for anything. Its kept me going for 12 years and hasn't got a thing wrong with it. They were designed to last and they will, get them when you get the opportunity.
Akai S2800 - Make sure you have the volume on the frony right turned to 3/4 or max. Check that you have that sample mapped for the range of keys you are pressing. Follow a tutorial in the manuals.
