After the S1000 & S1100 came the first 3000 series, (without the XL suffix)... and the S3200 was the top dog of the series....
All the Akai ranges offer/ed a top model that comes fitted with all the gubbins to drop straight into an AV production suite.... and the 3200 was it....coming in like the S1100 before it with the direct to h/d recording option fitted & the option to fit either a 3.5" hard-drive or a magneto-optical drive for storage.... Smpte read/write, AES/EBU & s/pdif all as standard meant that this machine could be used to build a smpte cue list of samples, dialog, sound fx, music & h/d audio, and play it all back to the cue points of the smpte code.....So it could jump right into the job without any additional stuff needed...
For your purposes of gettin some dance toons together, the 3200 is now a good s/h contender to the newer pricier units on the market.... offering decent poly & ram, balanced XLR L/R in/out as well as the normal 1/4" un-balanced L/R in/out.... and also 8 polyphonic outs for assigning different parts to dedicated outputs....It even has the limited FX board as standard & the additional hi-pass/lo-pass/band-pass filter as standard too
A great sampler... a little dated in terms of polyphony compared to the latest monster units knocking around now, but a VERY good option s/h to say a new S2000 and plenty enuff poly & memory for dance work.....
Make sure if you are chasing an S3200 or any of the first S3000 series s/h, that it has the full memory fitted (32mb) or as much as you need....This 3000 series was the last to use the special Akai sample-ram boards as opposed to the cheap standard simms that followed......you can still get the boards but they are like 250-300 quid each for 8mb !!...., and when they do come up s/h (which is rare) they are usualy expensive compared to simms... so watch that one.....
