The classic Drawmer DS201 noise gate - Probably the most used unit in an Fx rack round the world... expect to see these in banks of 4 or 8 units on live rigs etc and most live studio's have at least a couple of these. Drawmer came up with this design along time ago and it has stuck. The First section on each side of this stereo unit is the frequency concious section. You switch it in to monitor mode, and 'tune-in' to the frequency you want the gate to respond to.
So for example, you tune in to the top-end frequencies of mebbe 8khz for a hi-hat so that only the very top-end thin frequencies will cause the gate to respond and open, but NOT the lower frequencies that say the snare is emitting.
