Ok we just got the RV 15 on test, initial impressions are.
it's very clear and smooth and warm.. intimate. the sound is classy. the value of the whole kit is superb. Like with 'The T-Bone' mic's, or StudioProjects mic's, you get excellent value for money due to the overseas manufacturing filtering thru.
In the case of the RV15 (no pun intended, the case and the clamp etc, the whole package definately will make the owner pretty damned pleased with their outlay. That's is important.
There has been major steps in 'home-studio' advancements. The first was cheap narrow band multitrack like Fostex ushered in, then came digital reverb at cheap prices strating with alesis, cheap fx units and now mic's have followed. This mic is an example of that new breed.
We have one problem with this mic set tho already which we've told the company about, and they aknowledge this problem, which is to do with the gripper thing you grip to tighten the stand clamp position at the top of the mic stand... the bit that locks the cradle angle steady - that nut has a knob thing but you cant tighten it up enuff, so their guy said this would be changed cos he agreed they had identified this problem.

The thing is, this nut is on their lighter mic fittings like their new drumset mic's, and works a treat with those lighter mic's and looks very cool and futuristic into the bargain, but the RV15 is HEAVY! ... it's a big ol' mic with a big ol' cradle and together they need a stronger lock-down to prevent movement...
anyways the one we have was the first to go out apparently, so it's not like this won't change.. I'll ask more about it, you could grip the knob with some mole-grips or larger pliars or grips I spose (wrapped in cloth or something to not scratch the knob) and tighten it that extra bit, but that's a pain & still might damage the nut thing.
Anyays, that is a fault design-wise of the cradle thing, the mic itself is crisp... I've already done some acoutic work with it, and the sound is really nice, like a flippin' record! - that's just what you want in the end.
