Amek Pure Path Channel in a box, 2 channel Preamp/Equaliizer/Dynamics.

The Channel in a Box (CIB) was the first module in the Pure Path range of creative signal processing devices. Inspired by the success of the 9098i, the no compromise design of the CIB combines Mic Pre-Amp, Line Amplifier, Hi and Lo Pass Filters, 4 Band Equaliser and Classically Inspired Compressor, all carefully designed into a 1U-rack space.

a truly wonderful strip to have around. all Ruper Neve designed. Almost identical to the channelstrips in the Amek 9098i super-analogue console.
quite possibly the cleanest, most natural sounding mic pre in existence (with the exception of the Grace Design), coupled up with an amazingly sweet Neve 4 band eq. (hi /lo shelving + lo mid & hi mid parametrics) powerful hi & lo pass filters, and the compressor is great sounding AND very flexible (thresholds from 1:1 to 40:1.) Thanks to the abililty to internally send the filters OR any section(s) of the eq to the sidechain of the compressor this thing can solve any number of tricky audio problems. (most notably, incredible de-essing capabilities. better sonically and more powerful than 95% of standalone de-essers that i've heard.)

Does it sound as pleasing as a perfectly restored 1073 or 1272? Well it does lack some of that original Neve design warmth and character. But it makes up for that in the departments of sonic excellence, purity and flexibility. It is certainly surgical and musical all at once (a rarity in audio design). I will not hesitate to use this strip anywhere, anytime with any mic on any source. It is the outboard strip perfected.
However, the Manley Vox Box, all the D.W. Fearn, Mercury, Brent Averill and some of the Great River stuff still have this pre licked in the area of character, but that can sometimes be a fair trade for technical perfection of this calibre.
