The Roland VSR 880! I have owned one of these for about 6 years, and strongly recommend the unit. First off, in the flesh its one of the most beautiful bits of equipment I have seen. Second its been relentlessly reliable, and is extremely well specced, with a comprehensive digital mixer, and with the optional board effects as well. Best of all no separate computer! Of course nothing can match the versatility of a computer, but recording without one is great.

And by the way, the equipment shown at the top of this page is NOT a VSR880 !!!!!!
