it's not there D.A.L CARD-D PLUS

D.A.L CARD-D PLUS

Back in the day soundcard choices outside of soundblaster's for pc audio were few and far between. This D.A.L card and the Tahiti were the two frontrunners of the new pc music revolution.
The DAL Card-D is a very high quality audio card, and it's expensive... I don't use one, but I've got two friends running them, so I know pretty much their quality of audio, & reliability... and they are very good indeed.

WARNING : Despite what it says in the Cubase manual, DAL cards DO NOT currently work with Steinberg's Cubase S/Ware unless it is version 3.5 or above.

I would have to say tho', that the quality is really more than we need for most home-studio Dance audio applications. But if yer loaded, and need prestine quality master monitoring & audio input quality for working with say VST or Logic Audio, Cakewalk etc, where a stereo out is all that is required, then check one of these out... The sound is VERY upfront and clear.

The other thing now is that the Pinnacle has just come out, and it's audio is higher spec'-wise than the Card-D... Also, the Pinnacle price is lower. So maybe we'll see a price drop from DAL.

Like the Pinnacle, the DAL Card-D also takes an S/PDIF Daughterboard. Again the Pinnacle better's it for price, and there are many competitors out there now with paper-spec's that appear to be higher along with a cheaper price tag..... But, the DAL does have very high quality sound... and it's that final result that matters... In this respect, the DAL cards are the nutz... very well built, with excellent seperation and sound definition, a very clean crisp present sound full of detail... You gotta hear one!

Here's the spec' :

  • Convertors : Dual 16bit Delta-Sigma A/D Converter, 64x oversampling
  • Converters : Dual 18bit D/A convertor, 8x oversampling
  • Frequency Response: 20Hz-20kHz, +-.25dB (fs=44.1kHz)
  • Frequency Response: 20Hz-20kHz, +-.5dB (fs=44.1kHz)
  • Dynamic Range: 92dB typical
  • Dynamic Range: 92dB typical
  • THD @ 1kHz: .003% typical
  • THD @ 1kHz: .003% typical
  • Crosstalk @ 1kHz: -95dB
  • Crosstalk @ 1kHz: -95dB
  • Phase Linearity: +-5 degrees
  • Sample Rates: 48kHz, 44.1kHz, 32kHz, and 22.05kHz (Software Selectable)
  • Inputs/Outputs: Single-ended RCA jacks
  • Operating System: Windows 3.1/ Win95/ WinNT
  • Levels: +4dB, -10dB, and consumer line-level (Jumper selectable)
  • Bus Slot: AT bus, 16-bit

All in all, a great card.... but they're goin to have to lower the price.

The user of this soundcard cannot play CD's through the

computer, they have to use the headphone jack.

Also the driver offers no direct X support, therefore

you cannot use programs such as Mixman studio.

just add here that i got the card myself, and with the new drivers at the DAL site, it works ok with VST...... you'll need a seperate midi card as well, and bear in mind, that you cannot input your PC CD player onto the board like you can with a normal pc soundcard, so you'll need a cheap soundcard with midi port added to the system if you want to record of the pc cdrom, and get midi too..... otherwise, for midi only, you could use a MPU401 generic card
