Next up from the R8, but we're gettin out of budget territory here... Personaly, I thought it was not too great fer the money but they have dropped in price alot.. OK, you do get some 909 stuff,....the Kik, Snare, Blip, Cowbell etc......But, apart from a bit of tuning, & the addition of chorus & reverb, there's not alot more to it... The R8 is more creative i'd say....I would say the R70 is more a better standard box for House/Garage and other analog TR driven drum sound styles, where you will get not-bad samples of the the main 909 & 808 sounds.
The R-70 was Rolands top-box at one time (early 90's).... 8 multi-outs.... big sequencer.... more sounds.... all pcm samples.... this unit has basic chorus & reverb fx which you can add.... and has a bigger pallette of 909 & 808..... one of the few boxes with such a ready to go compliment of analog drums.... they are fine & usable... benefitting like most drum boxes from some creative use of other out-board to get them to really hum.....

Good versatile box in a sea of few pcm analog sample-box choices...... good percussion too, and a compliment of real-drum sounds........largish sturdy unit, with nice big rubberised buttons to tap.....

only 4 outs actually - stereo + 2 aux. can use effects board OR aux outs but not both. still great machine tho' & very versitile. got 2 m'self.
