Can be thought of more as a synth that happens to play drum sounds......it has awesome editing facilities for a drum machine with envelopes & filters etc etc......The only thing is..... You have to try to find the Dance cards that were released for a very limited period before the box was discontinued....or use some loaded waves & synthesise yer own......
There were 2 "Dance Cards"......Dance & Soul....House & Rap are the titles......The cards were put together by Gota...(Bomb the Bass, Massive Attack, Soul II Soul programmer).....dunno if they actually were ever released tho......
The editing on the RY30 is well above most units.....especially cheap as it's a secondhand item now really........The RY 30 utilises a pitch type wheel, that can be assigned to things like Filter, Panning, Pitch, Decay etc....The wheel can also control the Volume & timing (within a pattern) of the kit sounds....The RY 30 also reads SY/TG 77 & SY/TG 55 cards...so you can input all sorts of raw waves & synthesise them....The Synthesis section includes:.....Up to 2 waves per voice, each with seperate Level, Pitch (+/- 6 octaves !!), Filter, with rate & level, basic envelopes etc....The filters have Resonance & cut-off...and is switchable from 12 to 24 db....Velocity is assignable to Filter, Pitch, Envelope etc......All in all a very very versatile machine...with 20 bit outputs and 48k 16 bit samples.....I'm not sure if any dance kit sounds are on the SY or TG cards or how well you could try to synthesise your own,......but If you can find the cards with the dance stuff on..... these machines KIK ASS !!!.........10/10
