MDA (Maxim) DRUMSYNTH

Checkout 'Drumsynth', from MAXIM Digital-Audio, Paul Kellet is the man behind MAXIM, who also brought you the excellent AKAI-DISK, a FREE utility that converts Akai samples to .WAV and .WAV to Akai !!.... he's got a few other s/w's there too - this is a great source of drum-sounds for your sampler or tracker - check it out now !!

DRUMSYNTH is a great FREE s/w utility that creates drum sounds and other noises all in a small easy to use utility....

DRUMSYNTH is an ADDITIVE drum synth, meaning it creates sounds not just by subtracting from the sund with filters, but building a sound by adding layers to create new sounds.... It comes with lots of ready to go drum kits from 'Techno' to 909 etc..... My impressions are that the drums are bloody excellent, but the hats are a bit ...er.... they have this sorta 'breaking-china' overtones... not too authentic from my brief dabblings with this s/w... but the drums absolutely fucking rock mate !!....... within seconds, you can load up a 909 kik and with judicious tweaking of the parameters turn it into a gabba or industrial monster-kik drum or get a simple 808 and tweak it to create a Boom-bastic 808-kik with a huge decay !!........

You arrange sounds into kits for easy reference, and these kits appear at the left-sided drop down list -as the kits are selected, it displays the drums within that kit - you then select one, and load it for editing... the kits save the sounds in the format of the s/w, which is a .DS extension which allows the synth to store drumkits & sounds ready to laod and convert to .WAV as & when needed, - once you've created or loaded & tweaked a sound you want to export, you simply save it as a WAV-file, and it will be there in your specified directory....

Each drum has parameters for - Tone, Overtone A & B with wave-type select freq', filter, freq balance, and freq'-mod routings as well as A+B sum, noise, noise band A & B with selectable center-freq and width, pitch-shift & timestretch etc etc - the distortion is excellent and add's a nice twist of selectable bit-rate AND fre'-rate for the distortion - whaooah !!... you gotta hear how nastee this gets adding some 8 bit 11khz distortion to a banging kik-drum sounds - fucking gritty or what !!,..... it really is simple to create sounds, as each parameter activates an envelope with anchor points which you can easily drag around to get the correct sound or even sounds you didn't expect - you can also simply copy envelopes over to other parameters....

Well rather than me try to describe it further - best thing is go over to MAXIM and download it.... it's a small utility, but one you'll find enormously usefull - hours of original drum samples... no probs !!..... and it's - FREEEEEEE !!!!!!
