MDA (Maxim) Image

free vst stereo enhancer/imager for mac, osx & pc
Yup... MDA (Maxim Digital Audio have been around for years and were one of the first to bring a clutch of free plugins for VST... Most people already have them, but in-case newbies don't know... The plugins are superb!!

This one is called 'Image' and is an stereo imager effect.... does basic widening etc but seems to ffer two bands, (MS) dunno what it means, but definately the 'M' & 'S' settings effect the bottom end and top end, you can also mess with the first control to choose variopus settings, but frankly I dont have a clue what it means only what it sounds like... seems to shift the bottom end or top end according to setting... Well, just try it, it's free!...

We now host all the MDA FX plugs for both Mac & PC... checkout the FILES section and do a search for 'MDA' or you'll find them under the CLASS selection of: 'VST_FX_APP'

MS is Mid/Side. You encode the channels as:

Mid = ½√2Left + ½√2Right
Side = ½√2Left - ½√2Right

Mid represents the common signal between the two channels, and side the
difference signal.

If you immediately encode the M and S channels using the same encoding:

Left = ½√2Mid + ½√2Side
Right = ½√2Mid - ½√2Side

you get back the original Left and Right signals.

A very simple use of this would be to encode to MS, put a gentle high pass
filter with a mid bass cutoff on the side channel, and then recode to stereo.
You've just reduced the stereo width of the low bass signal, but left
everything else the same.
