For the money, these little gizmos offer a lot of support. If you don't have the luxury of a decent venue layout, feedback can be a big issue. The Sharks learning function causes pops and squeaks, which it then listens to, so that it can assess the frequencies that will be a problem later. Upto 12 frequencies can be filtered at once, and as the filters are narrow, it takes less out of the music than an EQ might, and lets you up the mic gain a little more than you normally might be able to.

The noise gate also helps reduce the hiss and feedback you get during breaks.

The active mode, where it constantly looks for feedback frequencies and removes them should be used with caution if you have backline guitar amps near the vocal mics (like I said, in a bad venue). The filter can get confused by this and start chopping out larger than intended frequency ranges. Use the learn function before the event, then only turn on the search and destroy function if you have feedback problems later!

The built in mic preamp is a useful little extra if you are short on mic inputs to your mixer, too.
