Does anybody know if the Emu Emax 1 digital sampling keyboard can be used multitimbrally using Cakewalk, if so, how and how many parts.

yes....up to 8 part multi mode....8 part poly or 16 part poly with primary & secondary samples......these 8 parts can be either on seperate or shared outs....8 not/part is standard for samplers in this age/price range....but the emax offers more sample rates than most

One warning about the old Emax. It's got a really slow midi response time. Probably not a problem if you're using it for strings, but I wouldn't recommend using it for drums, unless you don't use any other midi gear with it apart from a sequencer. One positive thing about it, the filters are awesome (REAL ANALOG), and a lot better than those in the Emax 2 or any EMU sampler after it.

Another thing Kiklo, or is that "Kick Low", these messages aren't in order either.

Emax1 is 12bit, EmaxII is 16bit - expect to pay 300ukp for an Emax1 and 500ukp+ for an EmaxII.

More info on the Emax1 http://www.aimnet.com/~qsite/emax
info on the EmaxII http://www.cev.u-net.com/EmaxII.html

The EmaxII is a really good buy and you can hang a Zipcart off the back with no messing.

I wonder if the memory (512kb) of the Emax1 is sufficient.
Iīm thinking of buying one and selling my CS1X, which I
think is boring since the sounds canīt really be edited.
How does 12 bits sound compared to 16?

EMAX SE's, according to E-mu, have 2 mb, and yes, that's plenty. But Kilo's harped on XG enough that you should know that the CS1x is actually an ok synth because of all the editability. Learn what ya' got!

Oh yeah, 12-bit is fine, and EMAX II's suck. (no matter what you say, Kilo, there's no comparison between the processing, they just suck. Like, they cost more than a used esi-32)
