Plugins for Dance Music & Home Studio - An Overview
Plugins for dance music might seem an almost impossible little essay to write, but we just need to remember what we are doing here; which is making dance & club music! - When talking about plugin instruments, noobs may be inclined to think only the best, most impressive quality plugin synths should be the things they aspire to own and use; but the thing about dance music & club music is that it is often created from small rhythmic parts played almost percussively, and thus cheap freeware items can easily sit alongside more costly detailed synth plugins (such as Arturia's Moog instrument etc) and they are all equaly valuable. This means the beginner and even the pro alike can create tracks entirely from freeware if required as long as the genre supports it!
Don't be afraid to experiment with sounds when using plugins. Sometimes you get superb rhythmic patterns by simply assigning a previously created pattern to some plugin instrument which offers completely different sounds other than the one you had in your head! It's all about the rhythm after all right? That's what people groove to on a dancefloor, and thus very cheap and freeware plugins can deliver superb patterns, often when used out of content!
For example - try taking drum patterns and assigning them to cheap freeware percussive sounding synth plugins for rythmic possibilities, or the other way round!... Take percussion patterns and assign them to cheap freeware synths! The possibilities are endless, but the main thing to remember is... free your mind and often your dance-floor ass will follow!
