A Djembe is the only drum I own...it was made in ghana by some poor exploited African being paid like 35 cents an hour... and they painted this sunset scene on it. I've always dreaded the idea that some bomb-ass painter sits around schlocking this simple ass sunset scene all day on hand drums to be exported. He/She can probably do the whole drum in like 2 minutes.

Is djembe similar/same drum to the derbeke?

Do you mean the darabuka? That is a North African Drum similar to the djemb�, but smaller and often made from copper or aluminum. It has a very crisp sound. Another name is d�mbelek.
