I'm getting an electric guitar in february..

What's a good budget friendly Amp simulator? You know.. that box you plug the guitar in and connect to your mixer?

Thanks for the input guys ;)

The V-amp seems alright and it's not too expensive either. Using software to record guitar seems odd to me (even though I have no experience in playing or recording guitar.. hehe).. I also want to be able to jam without having my computer on :D

Good thread "Recording Guitar", I didn't see it when I posted because I was so excited about braging about my guitar!!

What does the midi pickup do? Does it recognize the notes I play on the guitar and show them in my sequencer?

I tried to read about if but I didn't quite understand what it does

Thanks again =)

ya man, well explained psy. i just went thru the same conversation the other day... "say, can i plug my guitar into this active speaker?" "yes you can, and you'll hear it too, but its gonna sound crap" "why?" "because one is a hi impedance/lo gain, and the other one is lo impedance/hi gain" "ok, so what do i do?" "get a DI box" "whats that?" etc...

Yeah a midi pick-up recognises the notes you play and you can record them on your sequencer, but not on it's own. The pick-up is just a six channel pick-up (one for each string). You also need the matching guitar synth to convert the signal into midi. This makes it pretty expensive. The tracking can be pretty sloppy unless you play very accurately and on the lower notes there is a noticeable delay while the pitch recognition works out what note it is. I'd love one but haven't been able to justify the cost. I should really just learn to play the keyboard.

There's another one called the Johnson j-station, $149. It supposedly has a warmer sound then the line6 POD especially on clean tones (there was something in SOS about it a while back)...

I don't use it much, but it definitely works for just jamming around. Don't know about the V-amp, but I hated the line6 sound, real cold and digital

j-station is ok too, thats right. and re. pod, it might not sound 100% like your vintage marshall tube stack, but it, and its s/w equivalent (the amp farm) have been featured on more albums in recent years than you'd care to remember, or even to believe. and i'm not citing line 6's publicity quotes either.

thos Line6 heads look great tho dont they! - I wouldnt mind a full-on line6 rig with a couple of cabs and a head, but then again, and old marshall rig just rocks so well!

C'mon! I know you're not trying to tell me a Line
6 looks better than a Marshall! Speaking of great
looking amps , I just recently scored an old SVT
cabinet. What a thing of beauty! 8 10" speakers
towering before me, moving much air! Sounds
awesome , too!
