WELL..... i sat down tonight... and tried some vst experiments... bare in mind....i have it in a machine with a tahiti... which is NOT recommended... however... after experiments with the drum rolls problem i discovered the following....

1. it owrks WAY better with an external drum box...... cant seem to trigger the db50 fast enuff... is this a db50 thing ??

2. this is the settings i git the best rolls on.... regardless of having it set to a a max 32 channels....

number of channels = 32

memory per channel = 288
disk block buffer size = 96

mode = virtual tape

sync on the asio = dma block out

priority = highest

well.... i am getting almost decent rolls...... now i have to test it with audio...groan....... thing is... dunno if it can get tighter than that..... it is close... ok for non 16th rolls patterns..... still a tad shakey on the rolls.... cheese or ham.....

Your system details reads polar opposite to mine, so I guess that's why it always be JACKED!!! ;)

Anyway, this mpc-2000 isn't that much better, I'll give a comparison on the atari WHEN I got cubase.

yeah... maybe... but that is not what i started with...... i guess it's impossible to get that solidity if you've been used to an atari....

Seriously, I've got audio clock, sample out sync, 10 tracks, audio LOWEST priority, big system preroll; basically, everything SOS & all the user sites suggest. You have to go AT LEAST that far before we can compare systems.

BTW, I've suggested this to other cubase users on this site, many good results.

i guess it's the tahiti..... it's supposed to be non-vst freindly... whatever settings i do, it changes from day to day if i fire it up.. one day it's more solid than others....... I'm gonna run some extensive sync from the atari tests when i re-set-up the studio next week....

Strange as this'll sound, the system preroll is what fixed the performance inconsistancy for me.

yes....weird it did make a difference... I would never in a million years have guessed it.... i guess the secret is, that the midi & audio are in fact two seperate programmes with a common graphic interface, and they actually sync with the syncronistation ... weird.... I'm sure it didnt say that in the manuals, ... but... now the timing is almost acceptable the bastard just crashes..... the screen locks up... NO WAY OUT... you have to re-boot... i was wondering if there is a problem in the BIOS with some type of eide sleeping or clock retiming or something... I've had this weird shit i never had before... two drives on this machine just fall asleep..... at random times.... when you go into explorer for example... there is a delay of about 6 seconds while they power up.... i did some changes and it seems to have fixed it.... havent tried VST since... i wonder if that was locking the bus ??.... let you know... full testing this week.. studio set up at last tommorrow....

well..... I hate to say it... but It just ran for over an hour and 1/2 without a crash... I tried moving stuff around whilst playing, saving whilst play etc..... had 4 eq's, and a reverb on at the same time... pre-roll reduced down to 500, (although it was running ok higher at 1000... i just tried reducing it to see), and ppqn's set to 96 just to give it a hand in case.... f'ing weird !!.... the dialog in the Syncronisation makes no note of it having anything to do with clock internal to audio ...... but it seems to have made a hell of a difference....

now that is just the messed up general machine with shitloads of junk and programmes on it.... a p200 with 64mb s-dram.... hmmm... wonder what it'd do with a P2 333 or above and 128mb or more !.....

at one point i did something, and it glitched like crazy and staggered like a drunk..... but no crash..... strange.... well.... that is the latest... so I cant remember who said it... was it Clemens or Hilevelt?... but sure as hell the syncronisation section DOES effect things dramatically for the timing..... it's almost acceptable for tite stuff... certainly the fast 16th note drum rolls are now tite.. blimey !

Yeahhh...... you have got it, kilo.

Hey peeps, he´s becoming a Cubase VST specialist... :-))

But the only shit is:

Those Steinberg´d did forget to put a menu item to this proggie where you can simply select YOUR soundcard (well, one of the most common ones.....), your type of CPU, moterboard and HD system and everything works fine..... or should that stay a dream?

Actually, the newest ver. at least has presets for cards. You're idea's a great one, at least for a quick start, then let the individual customize to taste.

haha, look at kilo the skeptic. Now go try out the my settings on your buddy's gina, if it isn't any better it says good things about vst, 'cause a dma sync (& what negative you're saying about your card) is supposedly the worst possible setup.
