Anyone use these for producing drum tracks and would you or would you not recommend these units.

i'm no expert but i like the e-mu stuff i've heard.
enough to have bought myself a vintage-pro module with proteus2000 card.

play with the command station...check it out....if you like it....go for it.
it's really what you do with it that counts.
but explore your options too.....read the adjacent threads as they discuss people's fave drum-emulators in software too.
that's bang for-the-buck right there.

I have one... I like it a lot... very nice for live performance... and a well thought out synth! I think it's the best of the "beat boxes" (except maybe, the new Roland MC thing.. I haven't spent any time with it!)

HOWEVER... it's clock is not solid. It drifts a bit and can't be relied upon. If you're sync'ing everything to it's clock, you'll be fine, or if you sync it to another clock (which is what I do) you'll be fine.. but don't rely on it tro keep time with another sequencer without syncing up! It's not reliable

Wouldn't an E5000 with a few sample CDs be a more versatile choice - assuming you don't need the "groovebox" form factor?

I like the versatility of beating my own drum tracks. Thats the biggest feature for me.

yeah, but..something with a sampler might do ya better...so you can load your own sounds?

unless of course you have an Ultra sampler, in which case you can program ROMS for the command station I believe?

I was also considering the MPC1000. What do you guys think of that instead of the px-7?

well, hold different story as there are NO internal sounds, but from what I understand, you can fill the RAM full, and all that stuff will be there when you boot, so...

personally, Ive always liked the idea of a sampler because then you have far more control on what comes out of it...

you never really mentioned what youre tryin to do. do you just want a drumbox / sequencer? or will you be sequencing other gear too?

the MPC1k looks pretty damn good especially for the price. the effects are said to be good+, and the drag and drop feature via USB is really attractive

Akai's MESA USB really kicks ass, at least with my S6000.
