Can someone help me with a bit of advice. I want to create original jungle or prodigyish beats but I have no idea where to start. I know how to create standard house type beats etc. I would like to use samnples for the drum instruments as a dont want to fork out for a new drum machine.

ps HammerHead is cool but I need something more original

easy: find a standard jungle/breakbeat loop, which Kilo has here, pitch 'em out across your keyboad in 2 versions -normal & truncated to the 2nd beat-, and trigger & re-trigger on the and of 2.

hard, tedious, & ultimately more rewarding: Learn how to program breakbeats, or play them in @ slow tempo & speed up.

Hilevelt, you really are a nice guy, man!
What about actually cuttin up sampled beats as well-like finding an old beat somewhere and then fuckin it up?
Id like to hear this as well, although the programming thing seems a more, like you said, rewarding direction.
Just another bandwagon jumpin newbie!
Hey "Candyman"--dont forget the BASS in DnB! Youre opening pandoras box, my friend! Have fun.

I dont think anybody can really help you there, son...you must feel the funk. learn some drums maybe, or listen to stuff you like and try to play it on a drum machine or sampler with different drums on different keys, but for satans sake do not record it-you dont want to use someone elses beat too closely

(sigh) I'm touched. Love & positivity all around.

yeah, whatever. All this ass-kissing's got me feeling generous, so go find a program called 'amen'. I'm not sure where I got it, but it's an amazing sample cutter/re-organizer that doesn't require any external h/w. REALLY, much better than Hammerhead, especially for breaks. I think Holger found it.

BTW, Hammerhead's nice for learning how to make breaks, even though it's not so realistically useful (neither is 'amen', but at least it has 'the sound'). Sometimes I dissect my favorite breaks by porting them into HH, then take that knowledge 'n apply it with cubase & recycle.

Sometimes I take a break into wavesurgeon and save the
individual samples then re-build it differently in makingwaves.Works for me..But here's my question..How do I get those DEEP basses in Dub and jungle? I've tried the using pads from my DB50, works ok, but not quite the sound I be lookin for. are these samples or what? Tanks!

Aah, jungle bass. So deep it makes a mini moog quiver, so fat juno's run with tails between the legs.

One of the best jungle bass tones I've ever gotten was on my k2000 using a preset keymap called 'mellow vox' run through 'shaper' and 'wrap' parameters (& no filter). If you've heard a k2 you'd know these parameters usually makes the sound all distorted, scratchy, and buzzy sounding, but with some tweaking I got a beautiful combination of presence, roughness, and DEEP bass.

Magazines are gonna suggest sine waves or other standard fare, but you could coax it out of any just about any synth with a good filter (except a TX81z, DAMN THAT THING!)

I have made pretty good dub and jungle basses from a real bass. Al you have to do is filter it so there is no top end left. Takes a lot of work though, but live bass is really cool.
