Folks I'm sure you have some first hand experience with these.

I know that these LCDs have an "exact" resolution, like 1280*1024 for 17" ones. What happenes if you set the display to 1024*768? I guess it has to convert the picture, but the real question is: how does it look like? Does it have jagged edges and double lines (horrible) or it does some interpolation ? In other words: does the image quality decreases if you use it in some other resolution?

jep...you should only use it in it's 'own' resolution. It looks interpolated or something and gets blurry/foggy. With games and stuff that's okay, but with text or windows....nah....you don't wanna go there.

It looks a little pixelated. You won't notice it too much on graphics as opposed to reading text.

What's wrong with 1280?

Hmmm, thanks for all the responses! That was exactly what I was afraid of.

For 3d and music 1280 would be just ideal, I worry about my games...

Also, I use 1024*768 on a 17" CRT at work, and if I switch to 1280*1024 everything gets so damn tiny...

17" LCDs are closer to 19" CRTs in viewable area.

1280's a little high unless you've got a plasma or sit kissing your monitor. even on a 19", I prefer 1024

I've got 1280*1024 at work (19 inch crt).
I switched if from 1024*768 and it looked real tiny in the beginning (first few days) but I quickly got used to it. And I'm not kissing the screen :-)

1024 on a 17" is way too big. Blind bastard

I run 1600x1200 on my 19" CRT at home. I admit it's a little small, but I need the real estate for Sonar. 1280x1024 on the gaming machine with 19" screen and it's perfect.
