There are certain things you can do with an analog that you can't do with a sampler simply stemming from the fact that you can dynamically alter how the wave is produced in a modeling/analog synth (because the wave is being generated on the fly), and you really can't do that with a sample (seeing as how it's prerecorded, you can really only "scrub" back and forth or chop it up granular-style)
Anyway, your sampler is a synth, don't let anyone tell you otherwise...
