I'm two weeks away from purchasing one of these samplers, but still have not decided which one to go for... I will be buying new on interest free credit so 2'nd hand is out of the question... Thing is you can get the A3000 for 1100ukp +ZIP+32meg or the S3000XL for 1100ukp +32meg.. I'm leaning towards the S3000XL at the moment because of the 10 separate poly outs and the big screen. But the A3000 has the controlers and more polyphony.

Anyone got any good ideas or experiences with these. I've allready owned a s2000 in the past so I am used to Akai's system.

What are the outputs on the A3000?

STOP!!!!!!
U can get both for £899 UK as standard. And remember that the Yamaha can read Wav files (Akai can't) and that the Yamaha comes with effects as STANDARD!

And, the Yamaha is compatible with Wavesurgeon (at £30) which is a far superior program to Recycle (at £199) which the Akai is compatible with.
I've got both Recycle and Wavesurgeon (registered) but I ain't got a Pro Outboard Sampler (Yet). I'll probably get the Yammy. Wavesurgeon splits and converts wavs into soundfonts too which is really cool!

Wavesurgeon also works with the S3000XL, not ? I think I've used them together. At least it works with soundforge.

Don't forget you can ALWAYS save money on the asking price (no matter how cheap) if you turn up and wave some cash in their face THEN be a brutal haggler... eg. offer £500 (you won't get it but it'll work them down)

Alternatively.... If you've seen an Emu Esi32 in any second hand shops (UK) then let me know.. It's got to be a shop though because I'll have to use my credit card. I can either go for interest free credit (up to 1100) or credit card purchase for about 550-600ukp..
