musician's friend has a good deal on 100 for 100.00. artwork included. i'm sure you create your own cover art...they print it. shrink-wrapped too.

best starter deal i've found.

I'm pretty broke these days (thanks Dubya) so I'll be doing everything but shrink wrapping and graphic design. What I'm looking for are two styles of blank stock:

Gatefold, 4 panel, two pocket (if I can find a talented artist for all those panels)

Cardboard outer sleeve, w/o flap, and paper innersleeve w/o flap, Mini-LP style.

I'll be using an inkjet to print on the CDs, stick-on Avery labels for the outer 2 panels and the, inner, CD side panel. The, inner, booklet side panel will be blank - or signed and numbered  . The booklet will be 20lb white stock with a glossy inkjet photo paper cover, saddle stitched by our friends at Kinko's. I would prefer recycled stock.

IF I could find "unassembled" innner and outer sleeves for option two (Mini-LP) I would be able to print on the sleeves, instead of using cheesy Avery labels, then fold and glue them myself. I really do have more time than money right now.

As for artwork, I'm going to try recruiting some eager, up and coming, talented, easily exploited, visual artist who needs a piece for their portfolio. Someone like me when I was eager, up and coming, talented, and easily exploited.

I guess details help. Thanks Clay.

I know, I know. I'm working on financing the move(did I mention how broke I am?).

I have been on the net looking at rents and roommate situations seem affordable. I've seen several in the $400.00-700.00 range. Work is also key, however, at this point even an office PA position is starting to look good.

I did discover that I can do my own shrink wrap as well.

i don't mean any offense by suggesting you're well-bred. i just refer to your occasioanlly stoic and scholarly manner.

Thanks everyone. I decided on shrink wrapped slim jewel cases because its an "EP" (close enough, time wise, to the "accepted standard" for CD singles) and because that's what I have laying around.

What is the opinion on paper labeled disks (edge to edge, full bleed) vs inkjet printed disks(inexpensive Epson Color Stylus 900)?

jewel cases suck. Who keeps em around anyway?

do-it-yerself labels tend to come off in hot car stereos. Many of my clients request blank CD's from us instead of labeled ones for that very reason.

if you don't mind a home-grown/underground look....what i do is get rubber-stamps custom-made of your name/logo...initials whatever.
they run about 6 to ten dollars each and will give it a label that's yours that you can probably afford and actually kinda looks cool.

Good points. I'll label a coaster and leave it in my car to see what happens.
