I'm looking for a mainstream software program similar to Making Waves but better. It must inlude a note editor for creating melodies found in Making Waves. Thanks!

You might want to try Buzz alpha. It is in no way more refined or mainstream but it is a great program.

Also if your looking or something that is midi only you
might try Building Blocks.
