OK, my method of making beats is to edit the sounds in soundforge first, SCSI them to hardware sampler, and build a beat from there. It's a fairly basic sampler (esi32) so I can't really do much with FX once the sounds are loaded. I'm quite happy with the results, but sometimes I wish I could stick a reverb on the hihats, or compress the bass drum once the beat is made. On the other hand, I feel I've learned a lot, in this way, about tweaking the sounds in soundforge to sound right from the start; and I have the feeling that needing to use post-processing on a beat is just covering up for a poor choice of sounds to begin with.

So I'm just curious: how do other people go about beat programming: do you do a lot of sound editing before building the beat? or is using VST plugins etc... on the actual beat channels an integral part of your sound? or both?

Thanks!

yeah aristocratic I'm not sure that's the right use of that word in this context, my English is horrible (you can tell I'm from Cleveland) I just got an image of a king sitting on a throne in his banquet hall yawning dismissing the poor peasant jester with a wave of his hand................... take him away he no longer interests me.

I don't buy the not offering you opinion thing I've noticed you have great difficulty keeping your opinions to yourself ! At least I hope not this place wouldn't be the same without your .02$

Geez yonce, give it a rest already. If you're not used to influx's tone by now you just don't read the forums enough.

actually, Ive been saying less and less. Unless my opinion really matters or would help someone, or if I really feel like I have to tell them off

I didnt mean this thread that way...I dont think Im better than anyone. All I meant was it was turning into a debate and unnecessarily so. I lost interest in that aspect of it.

at least youll always know where you stand with me

I'm not really pissed or anything reread my post psy. I thought it was kinda funny. I've been here long enough to know thats not how he ment it but thats how it sounds. I got a laugh out of it anyway. Just busting his balls a little I'm sure Influx can handle it. I suppose it's easy to misinterpert someones mood thats why we have those stupid little smiley faces. I would prefer to avoid them since I'd like to think I can express myself without them. looks like once again I have failed miserably
