although that too had a few bugs but I thought I'd upgrade
and have had some major problems with that piece of crap Cubase VST.
The timing is as fucked as can be yet the timing is
perfect on every other sequencer I have.
The MIDI instrument selector remains blank and unusable
(so I have to write down every MIDI instrument and
select instruments the slowwwww way - program number)
All audio files seem to enjoy crackling throughout the
entire song (and this is just one audio track and one MIDI track)
So, what I say is unless we all get together and sew the pants off
Steinberg then these dumbfuck companies are going to constantly take
the piss with us and flog us dodgy software that doesn't even work!
Why is this thing so fucking hyped - have we all been brainwashed?
I only bought the piece of shit because everyone constantly droned on
about Cubase VST!
Sorry, I'll take my pills now

There's some instructions on how to configure this for optimal performance in the PDF manual, I think.

There's a bunch of parameters found under Audio --> System that can be adjusted in order to improve MIDI to Audio accuracy. There's the MIDI to Audio delay, in samples, which is useful in case MIDI playback lags behind the audio, and Priority which determines whether Audio gets priority over MIDI or vice versa. For further information consult the 'Optimizing Audio Performance' chapter in the PDF manual.

This is highly recommended on other sites, SOS, and by me.

You´ve got it...... thats what I tell everyone....
have a look at the ASIO System- Settings, preroll values etc.
Thats what I did too... and my system works fine, nearly no trouble with VST.....
BUT: THAT SHOULD BE STEINBERGS JOB TO INFORM THEIR CUSTOMERS, ... but theres no Steinberg maintained forum out there..... they do a bad marketing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed about the forum thing.... as you know, i made the Steinberg /Cubase forum here, for them to evaluate, they said they would check it out as a functioning entity and see if they wanted it to be added into their site.... I explained that their tech guys could go online, and answer questions, and that others would answer stuff too, as they do here, and that with the search, it'd become like a big help resource, if they added it to thier site, and brought the users in to make it grow......... haven't heard nada from them.... I think they are shit scared of popularising a forum, that is going to be chokka full of people screaming that their system dont work.... heh heh...... still.... they made their site more pretty huh??.....
i dunno..... what a life..... the problem is... who the fuck wants to spend around 1400 quid or more, just to discover IF the system can work or not ??.... and i mean by that a P2, with scsi U/W audio drive, and decent soundcard + the s/w price too.... actually it'd be a bit more than that if you went for a higher end P2 and card.....
Karl at System-Solutions was telling me that the Creamware card that accompanies Triple-Dat s/w has maga low latency, with excellent asio drivers for VST.... like Gina is 500ms latency.... the Creamware card is like 70ms !!....
Lastly ....Clemens mate... what EXACTLY do you mean when you say..... NEARLY NO TROUBLE WITH VST.... cos I thought you said it was fine??...... NEARLY , is not NONE........ what is your prob with it?.....i'm interested...

AND: thats true: I´ve checked out VST in combination with the Creamware masterport card. 70ms system latency, rewally cool!!!!! AND: its an ISA card !!!!!!!!!!
With my Maxi PRO I have about 350 ms latency. Not so bad for an ISA card without special ASIO drivers. Better than EWS !? With the fucking AWE 64 you´ll get about 750 ms.
You can tune up GINA to 400 ms (less buffer size, about 3). But you need some patience when squeezing ASIO (sometimes VST will quit or your soundcard stalls).

The only freezings I had when I tried to optimize the system latency of VST in combination with my Maxi card (buffers > 8 will cause crashes).
...... BUT: I should open the housing and take a look at the mainboard.... should it be a MAC in a normal PC housing ?? :-))...........
have fun

Steinberg agent..... oh god, noooooo !!!
Well, I´m from Germany, but really no member of the Steinberg clan, not employed, no other relationships to any Steinberg´s.....
I´m just a fuckin Steinberg customer who offers free midi- and recording hotline in WWW for all musicians who do have trouble with sequencing software, PC´s, soundcards, etc.
.... and I really love this Dancetech forum.... its by far the best one out there in cyberspace..... huh.... this compliment is yours, kilo !!
ciao.... hi, hi, ha,ha...... still laughing....

I'VE FINALLY WORKED THIS THING OUT!
NO, YOU DON'T REALLY NEED A SPECIAL PC - YOU JUST NEED TO SPEND A LOT (LOTS AND LOTS) OF TIME PLAYING WITH THE SETTINGS!
HINT:
TRY A MIDI ROLL - QUANTIZE IT. PLAY IT. IF ITS IN BAD TIMING, THEN DISABLE AUDIO TO SEE IF ITS ANY BETTER.
IN THE AUDIO SETTINGS (ASIO) ALWAYS DETECT BUFFER SIZE AND THEN DO A THOROUGH 'CHECK BUFFER AND SYNC' . IT SHOULD BE BETTER NOW.
