Ive been using a Sony MD recorder to record tune on. Ive got a ALESIS DM5 and heavily EQ the bass on the kick drum. Even if my record levels on the MD are at HALF, I still get clipping on playback. If I reduce the EQ it records fine.

It probably down to somthing about GAIN and such like.

Anyone got any light to shed ?

sounds more like the input amps/converters as opposed to the actual storage... just put it as low as poss, and boost after recording unless you wanna compress a bit, but that may not work, and may also radically ruin the booming f'ect

Record levels are half on the MD. Output levels from the Mackie (LM3204) are green all the way......
