ill just get right to it:

is sysex and cc mutually exclusive? what i mean is, say i have an mks50 or, matrix1000 or something can i use my oxygen8 (w/c doesnt speak sysex) knobs to control parameters on it? is it possible to convert sysex to cc or vice-versa?

bah...thats not too clear...are there synths that only speak sysex or do all midi devices speak sysex and cc?..urrg

guess i should have payed more attention in midi101

Sysex and CC are quite different. CC's are normally used for controlling real time stuff, Sysex requires more data to send, so it's a bit slower.

If your controller doesn't send sysex messages, you can always try using a PC midi mapping program such as MidiOx to map from CC to sysex.

Most synths speak cc's, after all the mod wheel is a CC #2 i think. Generally sysex stuff is used for storing/loading patches from synth.
