So another one of those Turnkey "final reductions"
type offers has got my attention, this time a
Kawai K5000S (about 550ukp). I've taken a look at
the specs:
http://www.kawaius.com/
The idea of something different in terms of sound
creation is always interesting. I've listened to
a few sample AIFF files - typically cheesy demos
but some interesting sounds. And I could do with
a good controller keyboard.
But this is a machine that I never hear anyone
talk about. Why? The original FM review mentioned
some OS stability problems - have these been
fixed? I know there have been OS updates but the
release note don't mention what these fix.
Has anyone out there got one of these machines and
could give me an idea:
Whether it would make a good controller
keyboard?
Is the OS stable?
What kind of sounds do you find it good for?
Any little "weirdies" about it that anyone
considering it should be aware of (you know
controllers only transmit on Wednesdays - that
kind of thing...)
Thanks,
Rich

The FX are great and the res filters too.
The downsides are:
*the multi capabilities, a shamy 4 parts for the gargantuan 32 voices.
*although it has drum samples, it hasn`t any kind of drum kit arrange for them.
*the keyboard has an unique sound. this is well in some way, because you can make very original noises, but is very distinctive too, so it has a narrower palette of sounds that other synths.
So this is a great synth to add if you have another stuff, but not so good if it will be your unique sound generation source.
The programming options are veeeeeeery deep and sometimes You can be dissapointed with the work/results relation but well managed it`s an excellent synth in the real sense of the term that deserves time and attention to master.
