Did a favour for an ex-student yesterday and went to his flat to help him sort out why he had no MIDI i/o from his recently purchased (2nd hand - £80) DJXll keyboard. After putting the MIDI cables in correctly (in true student stylee he had them backwards...lol) we still had no MIDI input from the keyboard. I wrote a few notes in the edit page - MIDI being sent fine. No obvious reason why there was no MIDI input from keyboard. We went back to my studio and I downloaded the .PDF of the manual and guess what....the keyboard does not send MIDI! The MIDI out is only for dumping patterns into a sequencer, not playing MIDI.
I have never seen anything so stupid before on a MIDI enabled keyboard. Even in the manual they had a diagram of another (i.e. any other)MIDI keyboard MIDI'ed into a computer and then going into the DJXll so that you could play the sounds and sequence them.
So be forewarned... don't buy a DJXll and expect to use it as a controller keyboard.

And the most stupid thing is, they discontinued production of the original DJX to make these things. The original DJX is a brilliant keyboard. All of the DJX sounds + GM and controller knobs to access the attack/decay/filter cutoff/resonance...plus a ribbon controller to boot! I use one at home. Cost me £60 2nd hand out of the Loot. I can't recommend them highly enough as a cheap controller keyboard.

So be forewarned people. Don't buy or recommend these things and expect to use them as a controller.

sorry for the repetition of the forwarning. Typing into the little box is a pain for double checking your text before sending. Any chance of a larger text input box K?

yup, everything you said is true, PLUS djxII's keyboard is not even velocity sensitive i've heard. unbeleivably bad. i wouldnt even buy it for a kid as a "my first synth" type toy.

and yup, djx mkI ownz as a controller on the cheap

"sorry for the repetition of the forwarning"

lol

and for newbies here we should say - old midi synths make great cheap s/h master keyboards IF they have velocity sensing and midi out - old midi synths like dx9 etc can be cheaper s/h than a cheap 'new' controller keyboards
