is that a decent price for a dancetech PC system??... obviously way less without U/W scsi

As a comparison, most of the so-called music Pc specialists in the UK are charging about £1000 for outdated PCs that are going to struggle running VST:
Pentium 233mmx
32mb
14" monitor
windows
sequencer of choice (cake, logic, VST)
16 bit full duplex card (they never state what)
When I was looking at buying a new system a few months back, I was tempted by such places advertising "fully tested, working, integrated audio sytems". Unfortunately though, I worked out that you could build the same spec system yourself for half the price - but a hundred times the hassle mind you. Most people will take the second choice, which probably explains the amount of hassle people have running music software on their PCs.
The system you've specified seems to be aimed at the more serious user. I realise that to get the most out of VST you need to have a powerful and properly configured setup like this, but most newbies won't realise this and instead go for what looks to them as a similar spec of machine (processor & ram) from their local PC dealer for cheaper.
I don't know the price of the scsi equipment, but if you're talking around £1400 without it (maybe a larger UDMA drive) then I think this sounds reasonable compared to the price and spec of the system I quoted, but whether people will pay that or not - I don't know.
