the macheads at cubase.net forums are no help.
it's like asking penguins in the sahara if they're having a good time or not.

so i gotta ask here what macpeeps are using?
oms or freemidi?
i know of some of the pros and cons but still seeking additional info and opinions.

bill gates...now there's a man for you.

have you read about the town he's been methodically buying out?
and not just ANY town.

a VERY nice town.

so-called maids and nannies and underlings everywhere.....
lawyers and a couple guards...with guns.....sure.
a nursery too.
richest man in the world.

.

Ok, I don't know a whole lot about the subject (especially Freemidi), so I won't bore you with things you probably already know. What exactly are you asking.... which one is better?

well, i've used both and they work fine. i'm assuming that you are running os9.

freemidi is motu's protocol so you must have a timepiece or one of their
interfaces. they are a good match.

i liked oms. it was a little tricky to set up the first time, but once you get it right,
you don't have to mess with it. also, oms has patch names. a dope feature for
sure.

that help?

i'm still trying to sort out my g4 which i'm guessing the installation of a flawed m-audio driver and a flawed unit...combined have somehow wreaked my system to shit.

i have the motu midiexpressXT so yes....freemidi will work. and i have oms...and i understand you can switch from on to the other but is one more stable and trouble-free? i rarely had problems with oms unless it was like opening a very old song with an old studio set-up and then i'd only have to reconfigure my instruments.
it's a system i was familiar with and part of me hates changing things unless the need becomes obvious.
i have motu 2408 audio interface so it makes sense to keep everything motu so as to avoid any internal conflicts and opcode is no longer available for mac support.

but one question specifically regarding oms>>>is it supposed to sit in my system folder or does it matter? currently my set-up refuses to acknowledge the existence of my external gear.
when i go to cubase's midisytem set-up and check the inputs box it shows nothing but cubase sitting there.
i'm thinking this is my dilemna right there...if i can get my gear to appear there so ican activate them as inputs....then i'm sure free-midi and mos will deliver for me.

i'm tired of dealing with it right now after about 70 attempts of trying one thing and then another over two or more days.
.
so don't rush to provide any answers.
but thanks for whatever clues you might be able to provide.
