pro tools easier and industry standard..trust me..im an old cubase user.

well you dont give much details of what sort of music you're doing, OR wether you use entirely s/w based studio, or wether you have outboard...

But, working with Cubase or any other sequencer is always the same... Songs can start with various starting points.

1. a synth riff/pattern is created as a starting point.

2. a drumbeat is starting point

3. a chord progression is starting point

whatever your starting point, basicaly, you create a basic drumbeat and basic chord progression, or a drumbeat with accompanying synth riff.

you then copy that over make a song-length, then go back and device the song into section, adding rolls & breakdowns along the songs length so that your basic sections are in place, then go back again and add fine detail

Of course it depends what type of music it is and how the inspiration strikes.
