what the hell is all this shit about?

dt is #1 and only indispensable source for answering all those pesky system configuration questions as well as a great place for mindless prattle about 'oh i prefer the register of a gerbil in heat' or whatever. this site is a real resource. if you're having trouble keeping it going why the hell didn't you say something to us? i presumed you were some dilettante or dealing kilos on the side to run this thing. i mean if this isn't some complex justification for screwing us, then yes, ask for a bit o' bread. the facility of posting a demo for all the world to consider is probably worth a few quid to me. i'm trying hard not to take out that loan offer myself that they sent me in the mail that works like a check if you just sign the back and you can have the money just take it to any bank and cash it and then you can get that superbassstation... so sympathy. extensive debt sucks. dt is worth a dollar or two to me.

er.... yup dosh is tite mate.... see i wouldn't care if i knew for sure it was going to come off.... (this expansion with all the bits...)... but look at the financial world right now.... maybe just missed the boat there.... we won't know maybe till december.... and i really am behind scedule.... it all should be unerway now..... the site has to go on a server in the states, it's about 200 mb we need to be safe with uploaded files for a while (although that will grow).... and images.... so that is about 600 bucks a year lets say... that is for the site......

for the record setup..... label & store .... selling the kit cards & s/w etc.... and the radio-station bit (real-audio-streaming).... that is about the "money-money"... and that is another matter..... it's happening.... but again.... look-at how it is all of a sudden.... peole who had money 8 weeks ago... suddenly don't...... i hope we get it.... the thing is going ahead... but....
as for DT's survival...... well, server fees.... and I can't really log-on as much any more.... the most I can afford is the short logon for a while and additions... (450 bill - thats about 2-300 more than without internet)... but to really admin it I need about 300 per quarter in telephone money to even start to do it right... so i guess it comes to as much as a web-IP people wpould charge for storage & maintainance charges....

but then maybe it will all go thru in a few months.... then it'll be a party.... but... if not.... I gotta get out to more work..... ther idea was to sell stuff online to cover the costs... do good deals on stuff.... like fixed items... not a whole massive list , like mega stores, but a short list of dance stuff ...plus pc stuff....

anyways..... thats the deal... I basically waited for the money for my thing... which was due Now.... and has been discussed all thru the previous 4-5 months preperation... now suddenly that money is out... for the moment... and thus... i gotta get back to work... and wait... if the other money comes in for the other project... that will fund it all.... with a record store etc ..... the whole works.... if that doesnt come off... I'll know by 1st Jan I guess..... till then gotta survive... and if it fails... get full time work January time..... at that point Dt will still be here I guess, but I dunno if the new -one can even get up on the web...we'll have to wait and see.....but lets face it.. there's some shit going on out there right now in money-town.......

well, thankx... i'm honoured.... i was holding out to see what happens with the story at my end.... if we go with this, it may be better to have you US folks send the money direct to the server company.... like to pay-into an account there which of course goes to the server fees.....

Thanks again for the support..... it is very encouraging.......what is fucking me off, is that when i started on this excercise to prepare for the money guys.... i had enuff in the bank to buy a new sampler, and a PA system.... wish I'd done it now !, cos we could just go out and play parties..... but i spent all my savings getting this shit ready for the promised capital.... oh well, i cant be held responsible for the financial state of the world right now...... anyways... it's not even the money to get DT going bigger... i lost all my personal money too..... i was supposed to get about 10-20 grand this month...... i was going to cover my costs with that money...... she-it !!!.... that's alot to replace.... i lost about 3K.... cheers again guys..... somehow it'll happen.......

heh heh, yeah but then the list of donors would take up all the server space. You'd have to get rid of all the music related stuff to free up some space. Then the site would just be a list of names, as a result people wouldnt be able to get advice on whether the CS1X is better than an Casio MT-45, they'd get pissed off and find another site. Then as a direct consequence the hits to this web page would reduce to nothing and it would go to the web graveyard in the sky. Then everyone would realise that their facility for leaving highly amusing and silly messages via an alias name had disappeared, causing an increase in suicides and a drop in the music market because of the decrease of musicians. Eventually after more and more musicians top themselfs (and I mean suicide not wank) the major corporations like Roland and Yamaha will feel the pinch. They will eventually restrict money to research into better gear, and then when things get really bad they will go bust.

The whole world would be short of music gear, all existing gears prices would escalate by about 3000% making it impossible to buy more gear. This causes even further depression which means more musicians die and even less revenue for music manufacturers.

I rest my case on the importance of this site.

Yes, absolutely, and that's just the beginning. Due to the lack of musicians, there would of course be less music in the world. Farmers, driving around in their fields in tractors would eventually go crazy due to having the same old music blaring out of their radios. There would be a global food shortage and everyone would die. Nope . . we've got to keep DT.

Just a thought, but Kilo, why don't you get a sponser or two to stick on the main page? One or two banners wouldn't take away from the page at all, and I can guarantee that almost everyone(the 10s and thousands)that visits this site wouldn't mind clicking on it at all to keep this site alive. Lets see, at 10 cents a click, and 100 people click it a day, thats 10 bucks a day, and after a week, you got 70 bucks, after a month, you got 300 bucks, and after a year, you got 3,600 bucks(american, probably be around 1,800 pounds) which isn't that bad, plenty to keep DT running for a long time.

Because I was once one of them, and in many ways I still am, learning, perfecting my art, crafting my style..... and everyone who has a voice that is compelling enuff to be heard needs to be nurtured, to avoid all the other people who say that it's shite... Because we can accomplish much in this life, but the highest accomplishment we could ever hope for is to touch other people and to communicate to them in a visceral, tangible, gut-level way, what we feel.. And what better way than music? And THIS, is why I feel that Dancetech is a wholly worthwhile endeavor, which needs to LIVE, and not weak things like when it's updated. Tho I do think, that the Neo Dancetech was one of the coolest ideas ever expressed here, because it will give us ( the regulars who feel strongly about it ) a way to tap into and add to, that great lane of knowledge, which touches the most unexperienced ones among us, and inspires their artistic voice to resist boundaries and let itself blossom and touch the sky............ And THAT is why I believe that $20 is nothing compared to the really cool thing that is Dancetech, and why I think that you shouldn't bitch that Kilo doesn't update his pages enuff for you.. 'S the problem with fuckin Fortunecity.. Busy FTP sites.... The fortunecity site was my back up just in case Chez terminated my account... Which they did.... It's shity, cuz a lot of my archived Real Audio is lost... Not that I don't have backups, but I can't upload, because the FTP sites are always busy.. Uggh.... Anyways, I hate the shitty way that free web sites run.. I guess you can't complain for FREE but..... I keep meaning to buy www.sedusa.com but I end up spending my money on new keyboards and shit

well sedusa...er.... no comment..... jason mate...when dancetech was being updated all the time, i was in an office, i had free webbrowsing, i could use the phones to call companies to get sopecs, answer questions etc... NOW... i have to pay from home... my last phone bill was 450 quid !!.... now we dont get free calls in the uk... so it's breaking me... i cant afford to do all that stuff like before.... tought shit... also we need LOTS of space in the USA server to run dancetech to it's new capabilities.... like say the file library... if people start to upload lots of sample files, it'll soon start filling up the server... and that is on top of the pictures etc being uploaded... so we need about 200mb to start off with to be safe... THAT is not cheap... and lets face it... 200mb !!!!... it's a fucking huge site space..... hence the problems.. i was supposed to get about 10-20K this month to start it... the cash is held up..... there ay go.... we were also going to sell cheap s/w and cards.... mail order.... like vst at about 260 quid or so.. i dunno say a good cut below the usual budget retail price.... plus sell samplers and dance synths like the novation, syntechno, quasimidi and others... eventually expanding to do part exchange, and keep a stock of s/h items.... (good idea huh?)..... anyways.... that was the plan... NOW, there is no capital.... simple... we have to wait.... it's a pain, but there ya go.. tell ya what... say to buy a magazine annually at about 3-4 quid a copy is about 50 quid per year.... now if everyone paid that... well, i could spend all day on the phone sorting out peoples queries, get ALL the latest kit to review as soon as it was available .... add hundreds of demo's..... etc etc etc... sorry... no can do mate.... this shit cost money....

the current new site....without all the data loaded comes to about 66mb..... ad another 10-20mb for all the upladed comments and reviews to the database... then the current sample zip files & demo's come to another 78mb..... so.... oh yes.... the RA files... !!!!...... that fucks it right off the map.... i didnt even include that..... anyways... with ALL the current samples in the library..... and the site, we need 140mb... without the RA demo's.... well, add another whatever for that, and as you can see, 200mb is as i said what is needed to get it off the ground.... if folks start to really use the file library and add reviews news etc... it'll soon add another 5o-100mb....

well, the cost for the server is $2500 per year for 150mb...... you work it out....it's fucked basically.....a lost cause.... fact is... you have to pay to get stuff in this life... and where the fuck am i gonna get 3000 bucks.... MINIMUM.... plus another 300 per quarter minimum in my phone bills....???..... just keeping DT open all this time since april has already cost me an akai s2000 in money... and that is without adding stuff, or phoning up korg, yamaha, steinberg and all the others like i used to all the time...

readership here WAS expanding.... so much so the servers were getting in a sweat...but due to inability now to add stuff, get the news, phone around, and expand the resources like before, the site levels are dropping... email stuff is down too...from about 20 email queries per day, down to about 3-5 per day.... there is nothing new being added,,,, no news no reviews.... nothing... sorry guys...

Isn't there some other way of solving this? My provider (t-online in Germany) gives me 1MB space for a home page. Some providers provide more space. I will never use my space because I have no interest in having a home page. I would gladly donate the space to Kilo, who could somehow link to it. Would something like that work? If so, all we need is a few (200) "donors" and DT could continue.

Do as I do, link all the heavy files (.ra, graphics etc.) to free servers (like Geocities, 10MB!) and buy just enough space on an add-free server to keep your index going and you have an add-free DT.
If you can find 20 of these free servers your (and our!) problems will be solved. It will be a pain-in-the-ass to control the stuff, but it's free!!!

I hate to be a stick in the mud over some of the ideas, but linking content to free homepage sites is against the TOS (Terms of Service) for these sites... It's not legal, and you could have your account yanked out from under you (at best) or be sued from whatever profits you incurr (at worst).

I also agree that having banners would incur higher download times, but it IS better than no site at all.

I'm in with my support for this place. It's been a big help for me. Kilo, if you need a hand testing the code, I've got a network in my house and an NT box (just no ADSL or T1 or connection to the outside world)... I could help test.
