Who knows! I thought DirectX was like an extension to windows.. i.e. buries itself so deep into your computer that it's nigh on impossible to dig it out again.

I installed mine using the clean sweep program shield, when I tried to uninstall it using clean sweep my computer just locked up!

A lot of stuff relies on directX anyway so why do you want to uninstall it?

Hi!

Direct Show, Active Movie, Direct X...........

all names for the same thing........

thereīs no uninstall available. the only thing you can do is to delete several files manually (at the moment I dunno the names, sorry), but I canīt recommend you to do this.

Direct X is a part of IE 4.0 or some soundcards drivers or WIN 98.

Hey, I'm using windows 95 and I want that shit off my system.
why, because I think its messing everything up. I want to re-install it.
uninstall it then re-install it. If I have directshow media do I need directx if its all the same
thing because i had both of them.

Every time I installed direct x it would screw up VST, GINA and video card. EVERY time I had to reinstall everything. It took MONTHS, now I dont use my PC for games just in case Direct X install kicks in and I have to start all over again.

Ive not found a good way of backing up the windows config properly, apparently you can set up multiple window95 on you PC.

Direct Show and Active movie and Direct X are not the same thing!! It is possible to have Active movie installed without Direct X thanks to IE4. When you install Direct X, it replaces your original audio and video drivers with its own. The easiest way to restore your original drivers is to go to Control Panel, double click on Add/Remove Programs, find DirectX Drivers under the Install/Uninstall list, highlight it, then click on the Add/Remove button. This will bring up a window allowing to restore your original drivers. If you have the Direct X Control Panel installed, there is a button right when you bring it up that allows you to do the same thing. If you have it you would see it in the the Control Panel area.
