Was reading in Computer Music magazine last month about the producers who worked with Slim Shady on the 8 mile soundtrack and they were singing the praises of sampletank. They rated it as there most important studio tool. Does anyone use sampletank because there is a free version of sampletank 2 on this months CM CdRom? It’s the guitar version and its sounds pretty good.

Dunno Beds. They were just saying that sampletank sounds sit in the mix beautifully and he actually prefers the grand piano sound of sampletank to the real thing! Their list of past clients is pretty impressive so I think this view is based on actual experience rather than sponsorship and free gear. But the guitar sound good and its free on CM with more sampletank instruments to feature and load in each month. I used to slate Computer Music magazine but in the last 8 months, they've done well. The amount of free software you get is great and it actually sounds good. The CM free 303 replicator sounds brill. Plus they have a demo version of Ableton 4 which is really impressive. I'll stick with Logic but I can see the appeal for live musicains.

i like sample tank 2.
it's versatile and yet easy to work with. it accepts most kinds of sound files.
it has nice filters and effects.
it doesn't take up the whole screen and you can customize the color of the lcd
to suit your taste.
it seems pretty easy on the cpu and it sounds good.
one instance allows for 16 instrument parts.

i won't say it's better than the others....but it definitely does the job.
