Maybe I'm just a groove snob but I don't tend to use drum loops from sample CDs - I feel like a cheat if I do. Also, if I want to build up the groove or drop the kick or whatever then it isn't always possible.

Do many pro musicians use loop samples?

I've heard that most do so they can crank them out or else they put together bandmembers or crew that can do all the production work but what do I know.

loads of people use loops in house. not with kicks in but percussion, hihat loops etc.

i don't see anything wrong with it, unless you think that everything you make should be synthesized or played live.

if producers have a bit of cash they'll hire a load of percussion players for a day and record them, then use those samples in their tracks. is that 'wrong' too?

pro musicians? as in people making money from music? of course they do. who do you think can afford sample cds?

I have to say that I'm with Beds these days (and after speaking to lots of house music producers) to say that I dont use really use sample cd's, but we may nick the odd hihat pattern off vinyl every now and then.

Btw, BEDS, did you send those cd's yet?

full loops are just pretty uncreative. if you just pull a one bar kick/snare/hats whatever, and drop it in straight, you suck. period

BUT...creativity finds outlet in many ways, right? so...you hear a 2 bar ride pattern you dig? sample it for the atmosphere...chop it up, etc

or, program it yourself. doesnt sound the same, but...

anyway...I agree that full loops are kinda inhibiting

i only have one sample cd... then again, i'm not a pro :P

never used it much, except to get some single shot drum sounds or mebbe few times for breaks which were then disfigured, played back at double tempo and completely burried in the mix...
