heard of him?

I just bought his most recent CD...i've always liked this guy; he has some interesting electronic grooves and genuinely intriguing melodic content...plus a cool voice and genuinely baffling lyrics...loads of fun...

I read in some interview with him that he makes demos for all his new stuff with a Casio in his house... that probably accounts for some of the cheesier moments on I'm Your Man.
Yeah, Leonard Cohen... I fool around with electronic music, more techno-oriented, but Leonard Cohen is my guiding light when I'm writing lyrics. Maybe we could start a morbid song lyric thread and I could drop off a few lines...

he he....

yeah i know most of his shit is not techno-ish, and certainly not of the type that I make....but i still like it, and i agree, the lyrics are great....i refer in particular to "waiting for the miracle" on "the future" which is such a fuckin cool song...

casio? interesting..yeh he does have some cheezy shit.

"first we take manhattan. then we get piss-drunk and engage in outrageous sexual acts and live to regret it. then we visit berlin."

Leonord Cohen is the perfect example of the atypical Canadian artist. Every nation seems to have it's artistic forte and in Canada it's weirdness. Cohen is an amazing writer as well as musician. If you haven't allready done so read his poetry. It's the most fucked up shit you'll ever read.

This is my favourite of his peoms

Untitled

I could not wait for you
to find me dead in a rented room
with my sunglasses dusty
on the card table
So once again
I tried to set my throat on fire
this time in silence
and not thinking of you at all
(I had so much time to kill)

It's from his book called the energy of slaves. Sorry I degress this isn't literaturetech it's dancetech and I should talk of his music. All I can say is I love it, and damn is his voice cool.

"Cut down the only tree that's left
and shove it up the hole in your culture"

I'm a big fan.

And apparently he's very big in France.

and he features in an earthling rap...

"a book, a poem, by leonard cohen - spiderman, spidermaaaan doing all the things that a spider caaaan"

along with...

"i'm rock, i'm roll, i'm nat king cole, i'm chostakovich lying in a fish bowl"

if you haven't already, you should hear the earthling album - was out what, two years ago kinda triphoppy stuff - but basically that real british rap sound - you know how basically rap is american and there're very very few famous british rappers - lots of british hiphop groups rip off the american tyle..

earthling don't rip it off and they sound weird but very good. that's my rant over anyway
