I've just discovered that my 6 Gig UDMA hard-drive is full and need to sort it out.

However I searched through my files to see what I can delete and found that I have a "TMP" (.tmp) file which takes up nearly 3 gigs!

What is this file? Can I delete it?

I'd say you're safe to delete it.. tmp files are usually temporary files created by programs that are deleted when the program is closed.... if the program doesnt get properly shut down the tmp file may stick around. 3 gigs though? damn.

But dont all the programs keep referring to this Temp file?

If I delete it will it fuck up my Windows?

I really dont think so. Tmp is short for temporary. Therefor, programs only TEMPORARILY need these files. If for some reason it does, just undelete it from the recycle bin.

It's completely safe to delete a .tmp-file, I get a lot of big tmp-files due to f.inst. photoshop (I had one about 2 gigs). Btw. you would never be able to open the file anyways so...

I read about temp files in PC Advisor last month.
It said you are safe to delete all files older that
ones created on that day. I did it on mine and have'nt
suffered any problems ( over 2 weeks ago now).
