I went to the waldorf site today to get the new soundset for my XT, and what did I see on the main page?? The MicroQ! Its out! with real pics & everything! the specs look badass

Yeah, it's basicly a Q in a rack with 1/3 prize. Sounds like a dream come true. You lose the knobs of course but it is one of the best synths engines around at the moment.

Personally, I'm torn between buying an XT or a Micro Q. I really need the real-time control but the Micro Q would rock, sound-wise.

Oh, I have a question too: I'm mostly interested in the wavetable-synthesis (what I really need at the moment is something that can create long, evolving soundscapes and wavetable synthesis does exactly this) so is there much difference in the sound quality and diversity between the XT and the Q range when it comes to wavetables?

I believe on the XT you have 128 wavetables to choose from , whereas the Q only has two. XT is much more wavetable-oriented if that's what yer looking for

even if you realy like the xt's wavetable abilities, youve gotta take into account that its only got 10 voices compared to the uQ's 25(both unexpanded ofcourse).

In order to get the 25 voices though you need to make do without some features, according to the fine print.

In my opinion, if you want a wavetable synth, get a Microwave. The XT-30 voice isn't much more than the XT-10.

heard that Q has one advantage in it
Wavetables even if it only has 2, and
that is they are much smoother when
going through the transition,
microwave can sound a little jumpy
or clicky sometimes when scrolling
through the wavetable..
