I'm torn between a few synths. This would be my only synth, and I might even sell the ER1 if the drums are decent. Here are the competetors:

Access Virus B
Waldorf MicroWaveXT 30 voice
Novation Nova (or Supernova)

Again, this is to be my one-and-only synth, to do entire tracks on. I like these because they have decent polyphony, effects, and great sound. But which should I get? I'm on a really tight budget. Are there any others that could be on that list?

Yeah, I really regret not getting a Virus instead of my Nova, although the XT is great too.

I guess it's the Virus, but those things are SO hard to find...does anyone have one they want to sell?

The latest issue of Future Music talks about the OB12 very briefly.

Has anyone tried the Emu Xlead or the Proteus 2k? Those look good for the money, and I'm starting to feel withdrawl without any synth....just sitting here with an ER1 it's getting kindof lonely.

I had the extreme lead for two weeks.
Very nice unit. Tons of sounds and
awesome arpergiators. There are
about 20 typical patters eg.
up/down... and 200 custom patterns,
which are all editable.
The unit has two effects blocks,
same as in the turbo option for their
samplers. The effects are pretty
good.
As for expansion , there are (two I
think) slots for flash rom that you can
burn with your "e" series sampler
from emu and a expansion board
with digital I/O and more dedicated
outs.
My only gripe was that this unit is
basically a sampler that doesn't
record. When you play the lower
octaves, the sounds are totally
"rompler'ed"
But, if you can live with that, its a
great unit! very easy to set up
multi-timbraly.
I'd say, that if these units get around
400 bucks, it would be a nice
addition to anyone's studio. (now
they go for around 649$.

Consider the Jp-8000 too. I have a
virus and a Jp, and though the virus
is cool because it's 16 channel and
all, I think it sounds way weaker. I
use the JP for the main parts and
use the virus just to fill more space.

Wanna sell me the Virus?

My main thing is the polyphony. I guess I don't need so much anymore, as I have a QS6.1 (64 voices), but I need a modelling synth, and either the Virus, the 8000, the Waldorf, or SOMETHING needs to fit the bill.

I've been looking at those too. They all look good to me, but people have been telling me that the Virus is better than the competition. So far, all but the review above have favored the Virus. Anyone else got some 2 cents to share?
