howdy all,

it's my new SN2kb. it's a long time since i had such a technical bit of kit and it's causing havoc with my head. too much midi data i reckon.

it seems to be locking up all my midi modules one way or the other. even the kb itself has locked. if you press the keys lightly you can get away with playing but if you play hard, then there's trouble.

i've tried all the midi filters in the sequencer so it must be being sent from the kb and getting through somehow.

can anyone give me a checklist of possible reasons to look out for.

darn good machine though,

all the best

george

That seems odd. What do you mean locking up all your modules? Does playing the SNVII KBD cause them to Crash? I have 28 synths currently in my rig and I'm using the Keyboard as the master and I have not had a single problem, I'm not saying it does not exist but it may not be the Keyboard. Please advise in detail the problem to our serice dept and we will investigate. The email address for Novation service is nickb@novationuk.com

i don't think it's a bug in the SNII but i can't be sure. i just needed a checklist because my head isn't what it used to be.

i'll contact nick in due course.

ciao brothers

ps. is luther on this forum??

I just got a new SNII KB and I'm experiencing
similar problems with it.

I'm using a MOTU MTP-AV USB interface.
When I play a few notes slowly on the SNII KB
controlling any of my synth modules, it seems
OK. But whenever I play quick passages, it
results in a lot of stuck notes on the module. It
doesn't crash them, it just sends a bunch of
random note-on's w/o note-off's. Pressing the
Panic button on the MTP clears it up.

The weird thing is that the stuck notes aren't
even ones I've played. I'll play in the octave
around C4 (no transposition on the kb) and get
stuck notes all over, especially in the lowest and
highest octaves (around C0 and G8).

One interesting thing to note is that when I plug
the SN2's MIDI Out directly into a module's MIDI
In, the problem dissapears, which indicates this
may be a problem with the MTP. I know there
are a lot of quirks with the new USB interfaces.
However, I tested the MTP with other
keyboards without stuck notes so I'm not exactly
sure where the problem resides.

Any help would be great. Luckily, I have another
master controller for the studio but I'd like to use
the SNII as a master controller for live gigs along
with the MTP as MIDI router.

Well, other than this MIDI transmission problem,
the SN2KB is just about the coolest synth I have
ever owned. I stayed up playing with it for two
days straight when I first got it. Luckily, it was
the weekend so didn't have to work... ;)

Best,
Charles

Charles,

Try another keyboard to test the interface.

I think it's probably the interface. I had one for a while and it did not work properly, especially with sysex, so I reverted back to my trusty serial MIDI interface & its fine.

Thanks for the reply, Phil. What kind of interface
are you using? Also, if you have one of those
USB Macs, which serial adapter do you use?

Actually...A trusty olde Anatek Pocket Mac at present, as an interim thing, running off a Stealth Serial card in a G3 B&W.

I will be going for an EMagic interface ASAP.

hmm, have you checked to make sure your not getting MIDI feedback (MIDI loop, whatever it is that they call it)? I don't know about the random notes being played, but I know I've had some of my gear freeze up on me when I accidentally had a MIDI cable patched incorrectly...

hi guys,

phil, why you make them midi ports on the snII so darn tight. tight is safe and secure but this is painful and scary when putting in my midi leads.
