I am having the worst damb time trying to get the OS upgrade into my SuperN. I
know that I have the midi connection right, I have the S/N prepped properly and I have the midi file in my sequencer
PLAYING...And the S/N justs sits there saying "waiting for OS update". Do I have to turn down the sequencer's tempo or is it Emagic's sequencers that just dont work with SuperNovas. Why does it have to be so tough to get all these system perks. Fellas, SAVE ME!!!!!!

Dude yer a dumb ass!!!You just unplug the power cable from the back of the Super Nova(while connected to the wall socket)Hold Down "global" "Part Edit 8
and "latch" and Stick the loose end of the power cord IN YOUR MOUTH. It will remedy and issues you might be having with the Super Nova.

I don't have the manual in front of me and I don't remember how I did it. Big help huh? I do remember that I couldn't get Cakewalk to do it twice but SoundDiver worked for me immediately both times. You're not stupid. I seem to remember something about global and part 8 as our friend mentioned above, but I'm not sure dude. Comb the manual.

Tired, friends ? Please reread Mike's question and you'll see that his Supernova actually sais "Waiting for O/S update"... so I'm pretty sure he found the magic part button. So, to help with the original question: If you have a MIDI interface with traffic LED's: Does Logic transmit SysEx data ? If not, check its preferences. Which O/S are you running, which MIDI interface do you have ?

Funny how sometimes the obvious just goes right by unnoticed.

I am trying to perform the upgrade on a windows based system. My interface, the Creative Labs AWE 64 Gold , is set to transmit SysEx data through My Emagic
Logic program. I have turned my sequecer's tepmo down to 80 BPMs. Now the only thing left to happen is my
Supernova needs to receive the new OS.

Mike,

If this is not too complicated to do, try disconnecting _everything_ else you may have connected via MIDI _except_ the SN, then verify that Logic is outputting to the same MIDI channel the Supernova is receiving on (you can do this in non-sysex mode, just do some sequencing from Logic to the SN and see if the SN is responding), _then_ try going into boot-up/waiting for OS mode connect Logic (boot up the SN _first_, _then_ launch Logic) and see if you can transmit properly.

Let me know if this gets you anywhere.

Very sorry Mike. I was following through on my previous mistake. Thought you were playing off of it. I wish I knew the answer, but unfortunately I don't. I hope Realtrance has it for you. If not, you'll find it.

Thank you for your hlep!!!!!!!!! I really appreciate your responses. Though this is starting to turn into a soap opera... I thought that I would keep you up on where I am with the whole thing. I have attempted the process with Cakewalk 5.0. I got as far as 43% of data transmition and then the sequencer stopped. When I went to push play again to continue the rest of the download, the supernovatold me that I needed to TURN IT OFF and start over again. i have now concluded that I need to purhase the Sound Diver Program or use my buddies' Pro Tools to execute the download. If you have any tips that may save me the $$$$$ that comes with purchasing the full version of Sound Diver, I would be glad to provide you with one of my rippin' jungle bass line
sounds that swell and belch like the depths of hell. Drum & Bass is the Future of Electronic Music!!!!!!!!!

Respectfully,

Right do this!

disconnect everthing from midi interface

connect sn on its own to the midi interface in AND out!

Load in the os midi file to your editor.

turn off sysex filters in and out on your editor.

set bpm to 50

hold down part edit no. 8 button and turn supernova on.

you will see "waiting for supernova midi os "

wait 20 sec

hit play on editor

bingo

this works fine on my setup se how you go...........

Thank you very much! I'll give it a shot. The lowest bpm I've tried was 80
and I haven't exactly waited 20 seconds
before pushing play either. My only question is; would the fact that the bpms' were set higher than 50 be the cause for the Supernova showing 43% progress when the song positon along the horizontal "event" was at roughly 98%of the total length? Was the sequencer loading data at such a fast rate that the Supernova interpreted it as less because it was only receiving partial amounts of data? Does this make sense?
Thank you for your time

Respectfully,
Michael

i`m not really sure but i did have problems with my Nova and SB Gold when doing sysex, but i thought i was just doing something wrong. but ive got a terratec 88 mt now and i`m using the midi on this and i can now do sysex no problem.
i`d say maybe try another interface, it wont be anything to do with the sequencer your using and u definitely dont need a pro tools setup 2 do this.

hope this helps,

Winrow 3745.

mike,

sorry this is such a long ordeal.

I think one clue in your info is that you are using Cakewalk 5.0.

I'd been very hesitant to upgrade (featureitis, the joys of installing new software and then having to fdisk and start all over again, etc.), but went to Cakewalk 9.0 recently.

I think since 8.0 they've done something to the way they handle sysex, and it's _much_ better.

Your version of Cake _could_ be the problem. If it's worth the upgrade price to you to find out, upgrade.

If you don't want to spend the money, you might be able to do the sysex transfer with a download of the demo version of the latest Cakewalk -- try that if you really don't want to upgrade (you can have 2 versions of Cakewalk installed on your pooter at the same time).

Best,

rt

I am so thankful that you folks have been willing to help me. I now have my
supernova up and running with the new upgrade. I shelled out a hunk of
cash to upgrade my sound card and purchase Logic Audio Platinum( Too Expensive just to get 24 bit audio .
I am very pleased with the fact that the cutoff knob (my favorite!!!) doesn't do that awful zippering effect that came with OS version 2.0. MY ONLY CRUX IS THE FACT THAT I LOST ALLLLLLLL
MY DOPE SOUNDS THAT I HAD STORED IN BANK D. I couldn't get the midi data dump to happen for some reason. Any way, It is well worth the hassel to upgrade the OS. 2.0 Was ridiculously flawed!!!!! You people are spectacular!!
These groups are what make the internet worth something to me. If any of you are looking to research gear you might be looking to buy or want to get peoples opinions on the stuff that you aready have, fell fre to checkou tthe site that has recently become my favorite;http://www.sonicstate.com/synth/index.cfm. This has reviews on roughly
600 synths and drum machines from 40 manufacturers. Thank you for your time an have great day!!!!!!!!!!!

Respectfully,
Mike
